Scotia Barn is Canlan Sports' multi-purpose complex in Burnaby, with six NHL-sized rinks, a dedicated figure skating rink and an indoor soccer field. It began as four rinks built in 1972, and most of the building received a major upgrade in 1995.
Long known as Canlan Ice Sports Burnaby 8 Rinks, it was renamed Scotia Barn, a name Canlan called synonymous with old time hockey but run with a modern-day approach. Rink 2 became the Scotiabank Rink, and Scotiabank took the title sponsorship of public skating. Canlan described the deal as two cornerstone companies of the hockey community supporting grassroots hockey in the Lower Mainland.
The official grand opening came on Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada, with a free public skate and an appearance by hockey alumnus Chris Higgins. Today the public side runs to public skating, pick-up hockey, shinny and stick and puck.
