Built in 2004, owned by Castleton since 2009

Spartan Arena opened in 2004 as Rutland Regional Field, a rink built behind the Diamond Run retail complex in Rutland, Vermont. Castleton State College bought it in the summer of 2009 and renamed it Spartan Arena, and today it is the home of Vermont State University Castleton's men's and women's ice hockey programs.

The Castleton men's and women's teams share the ice with Rutland High School's boys' and girls' hockey teams and the RAHA Jr. Spartans youth program. The Castleton club hockey team, the Cutting Edge women's team, the Rutland Figure Skating Club and several adult hockey leagues also call it home. The season runs from fall into early summer, with public skating and stick-and-puck sessions fitted around the team ice.

The building has been reworked steadily since the 2009 purchase. A covered walkway now connects the arena to the Diamond Run complex. By December 2020 a new mezzanine level was complete, with more seating, a rebuilt press area and classroom space, and a second observation deck had gone in at the southern end of the rink, with stadium-style seats added to the bleachers. The mezzanine also holds a fitness center open to the public. In 2020 the arena was tapped as an overflow site for Rutland Regional Medical Center should the COVID-19 pandemic overwhelm the hospital.
