Bowie's city rink since 1971
The City of Bowie Ice Arena opened in 1971 as a seasonal rink and now runs skating from July through April; the 2026-27 season is its 55th, and the city marked 50 years of skating here in 2021-22. It is home to the Bowie Figure Skating Club, the Bowie Hockey Club, the Bowie High School Ice Dogs and the Bowie ISI Figure Skating Team.
A replacement is under way. The city broke ground on October 28, 2025 for a new single-sheet arena on city land next to the Bowie Golf Club, a 49,000-square-foot building with an NHL-size rink, spectator seating and five team locker rooms, scheduled for completion in spring 2027.
Until then the old building keeps its calendar busy: a STEM Club and Skating Fun program returns monthly through January, and a Halloween on Ice party fills a Saturday afternoon in late October.
