Opened at Reisterstown Regional Park in February 2008
Reisterstown Sportsplex opened to skaters in February 2008, a $6 million indoor facility at Reisterstown Regional Park, with a ribbon-cutting on February 8. After years of scheduling ice time in other places, Baltimore County's skaters finally had an indoor rink of their own. The county council had approved the project in March 2006.
The 58,000-square-foot building holds a 200-foot-by-85-foot ice rink and, under the same roof, a 180-foot-by-80-foot indoor soccer and lacrosse field with artificial turf, lit and fitted with dasher boards and player benches. Meeting rooms, locker rooms and a concession stand were in the plans from opening day.
Opening weekend set the pattern for what the building hosts: a soccer exhibition game, learn-to-skate and public skating sessions, and a benefit hockey game. Youth hockey on the sheet today runs through Baltimore Youth Hockey, which teaches the community's kids the sport, and Loyola Blakefield, whose players train here for development in all facets of the game.
