A 150,000-square-foot, five-rink ice complex near Laurel, open every day of the year.
The Gardens Ice House stands in Fairland Regional Park near Laurel, and at 150,000 square feet it calls itself the largest skating facility of its kind in the Mid-Atlantic region. It is open every day of the year.
Its rinks include the Logsdon Pavilion, whose retractable walls allow 'pond' skating; the Patrick Rink and Exhibition Center, with more than 850 seats and room for 1,500 with standing areas; Whitey's Pond, an outdoor seasonal rink; and The Ice Den, a year-round training rink. The building also holds a full gym, the East Coast Hockey Supply pro shop and the Ice Breakers Café.
It is home to five youth hockey programs, several youth leagues and numerous high school teams, and the Maryland Scholastic High School Championship is an annual tradition here. Its USA Hockey-sanctioned adult league is the 8th largest in the country, the Gardens Figure Skating Club is based here, and since 2002 the separately run National Capitol Curling Center has operated inside the building from September through April.
