Opened in 2004 at the old Northmeadow club
Breakaway Ice Center opened its doors in 2004 with a single rink, the ice surface the old Northmeadow Country Club added next to its dek hockey arena. The building went through the names Northmeadow and Superskills before it became Breakaway, and Tewksbury's high school team shifted its practices here from Janas Arena.
Four years after opening, a major renovation added a second rink and new locker rooms, built where the old dek hockey rubber surface had been. With the second rink in place, the TMHS varsity played its first home games in the building.
Boston North Hockey took over in September 2020 and has since added new insulation in both rinks, new bleachers, a strength and conditioning facility and a new Zamboni. On the second floor are two synthetic ice surfaces, one 20 by 52 feet and one 16 by 40 feet, with their own locker room.
