Nancy Kerrigan's practice ice on her return after the 1994 attack

Stoneham Arena is a town-owned rink with one regulation NHL-size ice surface and stadium-style seating for 1,800. The building also carries the name Unicorn Recreation Arena on the town's own paperwork. It has two ways in, a set of doors at the top of the seating and the main entrance at ice level, and its locker rooms have not been improved since the 1970s.

Stoneham Youth Hockey, a volunteer-run non-profit that serves more than 300 boys and girls a year, practices here on Saturdays and splits its Sunday home games between Stoneham Arena and Hockeytown USA in Saugus. Austin Prep High School and the North Shore Shamrocks club also use the ice, and the arena hosts MIAA state tournament games and the Massachusetts Fire Fighters tournament. Figure skating has an older tenant: the Learn to Figure Skate Club, established in September 1978, keeps Stoneham Arena as its practice location.

On January 17, 1994, Nancy Kerrigan practiced here, back on the ice after the attack on her that month. She came back on February 22, 2018 to skate with local kids during a public skating session.
