Built by the state in 1974; run by Medford since 2010 and home to the Medford High Mustangs
LoConte Memorial Rink was built in 1974 and operated by the state Department of Conservation and Recreation until 2010, when the state leased it to the City of Medford. The keys went to Medford High School in late 2010, as part of a four-year DCR project; the state still owns the building and the city manages it.
It is a full-sized hockey rink with a spectator viewing area. The rink is home to the Medford Mustangs, along with Medford Youth Hockey and Medford Figure Skating, and Keith Tkachuk and Mike Morrison are among the players who came through here.
The 2010 handover brought changes a visitor would notice: the lobby was repainted in blue and white, Medford High School's colours, and a new viewing area was added near the Zamboni room. By December 2012 the rink had a new insulated ceiling and a dehumidification system, installed under the US Department of Energy's Better Buildings Challenge, one of a series of improvements made to the rink over the preceding 18 months.
