The Frog Pond rink replaced pond skating on Boston Common in 1996 and is run by the Skating Club of Boston
Currently out of season The Boston Common Frog Pond's ice-skating page says "The ice rink is closed for the season."; its winter-programs page says ice skating begins mid-November and ends in March, and no 2026-27 dates are posted yet. Official schedule update
The Boston Common Frog Pond sits inside Boston Common, established in 1634 and the oldest city park in the United States. The pond once held swimming holes and pond skating; those were replaced with a spray pool in the 1970s and the ice rink in 1996.
The Skating Club of Boston runs the Frog Pond in a public-private partnership with the City of Boston. Besides winter skating it offers a spray pool, a historic carousel and professional figure-skating shows. The club has a long public-skating record of its own: in 1911 it was the first to present a complete ice carnival to the public.
Skating begins in mid-November and runs to March. College Night is every Tuesday while school is in session, Monday nights are set aside for private rentals, and the rink closes early on New Year's Eve for the Frog Pond Skating Spectacular at First Night Boston.
