Dyer's home of the Blackbirds
Midwest Training and Ice Center in Dyer combines an ice arena with gymnastics and recreational sports under one roof. More than 10,000 athletes, parents and spectators come through its doors each week for training, tournaments and events, and the arena seats 1,500 spectators.
Until 2016 the rink was home to the Illiana Blackbirds, a junior team in the USPHL Midwest. A different team with the same nickname, the Midwest Blackbirds, plays here now, along with local high school and recreational teams, and the Chi-Town Shooters also played their home games in the arena.
The center hosts the Midwest Youth Hockey League, the Illiana Hockey League and the Midwest Gymnastics & Trampoline & Tumbling Teams. It has also added Blackbirdie Golf, an indoor golf simulator with four Trackman-powered bays.

Skating with children
Youth Rat Hockey is for ages 7-14, and staff may ask for proof of age. Every Rat Hockey player needs full equipment, including helmet, shoulder and elbow pads, hockey pants, shin pads, gloves and athletic cup. Parents and spectators must watch from the bleachers or lobby, not the player benches.
