A winter rink under Summit Park's glass canopy

The Ice Rink at Summit Park returns each winter for another season of fun under the glass canopy of Blue Ash's Summit Park, built on an old airfield. In 1921 the land became Grisard Field, named in honor of Lt. John K. Grisard, the only Cincinnati pilot killed in World War I, and Cincinnati retained 98 acres for airport operations until the airport closed in 2012.

By the mid-2000s Blue Ash leaders saw an opportunity to preserve a portion of the airport land for public use. Construction began in 2013 and the park officially opened in 2014. It now spans 130 acres, with an Observation Tower, a Naturescape playground, a dog park and trails alongside the winter ice rink.

Rink programming has included performances from local skating clubs and live music between public sessions, visits from local mascots and a duck toss on the ice for prizes.

Admission and skate rental together are $7 per person, per session; groups of 25 or more pay $6 per person, Monday to Thursday.

Skates range from junior size 8 to adult size 15, and a limited number of double-blade skates for kids are available first come, first served.
