The Colorado Avalanche's practice facility

Family Sports Ice Arena is the ice side of the South Suburban Family Sports Center, and it is the practice facility for the Colorado Avalanche. The building holds two rinks, named Avalanche and Hamilton, each with bleachers for 300 people on the main floor, and eight locker rooms sit beside the ice. A full-service bar and eatery looks down on the Avs' practice sheet.

The Avalanche connection is the draw for spectators: fans can stop by to watch the team get ready for its next game, and sometimes leave with a signature or two. The rest of the ice belongs to the district's own skaters. The Denver Colorado Figure Skating Club skates here, and the Black Aces, South Suburban's adult hockey lunch league, take the ice in the middle of the day.

Competitions come through as well: on January 18, 2025 the center hosted an ISI figure skating competition with events offered to all ages. South of the main building, a synthetic-turf sports dome rounds out the complex.
