The South Suburban Sports Complex replaced the 50-year-old South Suburban Ice Arena, and the South Suburban administration office moved into the new building at the same time. South Suburban Parks and Recreation describes the complex as a regional facility rather than a traditional recreation center or gym, with athletics amenities, a bar and the district's administrative offices under one roof.
The building totals 202,800 square feet. Perkins+Will of Denver was the architect and Adolfson & Peterson Construction of Aurora the general contractor. Three volumes make up the structure: a fieldhouse measuring 215 by 425 feet with a 44-foot ceiling, the ice rink hall at 220 by 390 feet and 42 feet high, and a lobby 50 by 250 feet, also 42 feet high.
