Detroit Parks & Recreation's rink, named for the only man to win the Cup as player, coach and GM
Jack Adams Ice Arena opened in the early 1970s as part of the Adams Butzel Complex on Detroit's west side. The complex is named for two Detroiters: the attorney and philanthropist Fred Magnus Butzel, and John "Jack" Adams, the only person to win the Stanley Cup as a player, coach and general manager, all with the Red Wings.
In July 2021 the Red Wings and Labatt Blue committed more than 100 volunteer hours to the arena, painting, landscaping and rebuilding the rental skate area. The Red Wings called it the city's only indoor, public ice rink, and the complex around it had just been through a major round of renovations.
Detroit Parks & Recreation operates the arena, which hosts in-house leagues and introduction to hockey programs for children ages 3 to 12. Dream Detroit Skating Academy launched its figure skating program here, and the Detroit Ice Dreams Youth Hockey Association, formed in 2014, plays out of the building.
