Birmingham's 1973 rink, renovated in 2021
Birmingham Ice Sports Arena was built in 1973 on the Kenning Park property. By 2021 some of its 48-year-old mechanical equipment was failing, and a renovation and addition, designed by Andrus Architecture and built by C.E. Gleeson Constructors, was completed that November with expanded and remodeled locker rooms, a new observation area and new meeting room space.
The arena has a regulation-size rink with bleacher seating for 550 spectators and a smaller studio arena used for lessons and skating parties.
It is home to the Birmingham Unified Kings, the school district's varsity and JV hockey program formed in 1992, and to the girls' Birmingham Unified varsity figure skating team drawn from Seaholm and Groves high schools. The New Edge Figure Skating Club and Player's Edge Hockey School also skate here.
