Home of the French ice hockey federation, opened in 2016
Aren'Ice opened on 5 November 2016 and was inaugurated shortly afterwards, with 10,000 people visiting over the day. It grew out of the wish of the French Ice Hockey Federation and the Cergy-Pontoise agglomeration, and the UCPA runs it through the company Univers Glace under a 20-year contract.
The architects Chabanne & Partenaires drew a building that suggests an iceberg lit by glass blades, with a roof that looks covered in snow. It holds two rinks of 30 by 60 metres: Éclipse, with 3,000 seats for hockey and 4,500 for shows, and Équinox, with 320 seats in its stands. The whole complex covers nearly 15,000 m².
It is the seat and national training centre of the French Ice Hockey Federation, and the Jokers de Cergy-Pontoise and the Club des Sports de Glace de Cergy skate here. The French national team prepares for the world championships on its ice, and the UCPA counts 200,000 visitors a year, 75,000 of them skaters at public sessions.
