An ice club over a century old builds a covered rink every winter in Nederhorst den Berg
Currently out of season Nederhorst on Ice, the club's covered ice rink, opens on Friday 20 November 2026 and is open until 2 January 2027, with the hours the page lists. Official schedule update
Nederhorst on Ice is run by an ice club that is well over a century old. The club bought its refrigerated rink in 2007, and in that first year its active members built it themselves, running into technical problems almost at once.
Today a technical team of about nine, backed by some 25 volunteers on a list, builds the covered rink each winter. Carpentry in the Bergstube and the building of the rink itself take about two weeks, and the heat released by the ice machine is used to warm the catering area and the ticket and skate desk. A barcode pass system has since been added.
The covered rink is open for six weeks of the winter, and entry to the tent itself is free for anyone who wants to come and watch.
