Formerly the Sugar Land Aerodrome

Sugar Land Ice & Sports Center was formerly the Sugar Land Aerodrome. It previously served as the practice facility for the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League.

College hockey is the main spectator draw today: the Houston Cougars ice hockey club plays its home games here and has started to build a dedicated fan base. Youth hockey runs on two tracks, an in-house league with teams from Sugar Land, the Aerodrome, Memorial City Ice Skate USA, Deep South Ice & Sports Complex and College Station, and travel hockey through the Houston Jr. Aeros. The figure skating program is directed by Natasha Kuchiki, a 1991 World Championships pairs bronze medalist.

The rink has also hosted adaptive skating since May 15, 2010, when ARC of Fort Bend County held the first STARskaters event here. That program, now called SkateTherapy.org, has since become a model for instruction of disabled skaters at rinks across the country after a change of director in October 2010.
