The Woodlands's third rink: a late-1970s village-center rink, a 1999 rink, a tent, now a building
Currently out of season The Ice Rink's page says it returns November 20, 2026, with a kick-off party on opening night; its info page lists regular sessions Monday to Thursday from 4 pm, Friday from 4 pm, Saturday from 10 am and Sunday from 1 pm. Official schedule update
The Ice Rink at The Woodlands Town Center is the third rink the community has had. The first was at The Wharf in the Grogan's Mill Village Center, the community's first retail center, in the late 1970s and 1980s, where pop artist Peter Max contributed designs for the walls and floor. It closed in the 1980s, and The Woodlands had no rink until 1999.
That year a small 60-by-100-foot rink opened on a site where Fleming's and the Waterway now stand, and it stayed until 2002, when development of the Waterway and an expansion next door forced a move. It then became a seasonal tented rink at Six Pines Drive and Lake Robbins Drive, with an 80-by-120-foot surface funded by sponsorships and produced first by the Town Center Improvement District and then by the Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Today the rink is a 21,000-square-foot permanent, climate-controlled multipurpose facility run by The Woodlands Township and operated by the local company Spectrum Events. The township offers skating from mid-November to mid-January, and in summer the space is a private event venue operated by the Pavilion.
