Leawood's only outdoor rink, in Barkley Square

The Ice at Park Place bills itself as Leawood's only outdoor ice rink. Each winter the rink transforms Barkley Square, the community green space in the middle of Park Place, which hosts live concerts and movies in summer before the ice goes in. Park Place, at 117th and Nall, opened its first phase in 2008 as a mixed-use property.

Themed skates fill the season, among them Skating with The Grinch, a Frozen Sisters Skate and Fire Engine at The Ice Skate. The rink is surrounded by spectacular seasonal festivities, and it opens on the holidays too: Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's and MLK Day among them.

Beyond open skating, the rink takes private parties before or after public hours, and its operators say it can host family reunions, school events, fundraisers, team practices, skill clinics and pond hockey.
