Official schedule update
The Abe Stark Rink sits on land that was once the Ravenhall Baths, a private recreation facility for Coney Island day-trippers. New York City acquired the land by condemnation in 1964, assigned it to Parks that year, and the rink opened in 1970. The original plans included a snack bar and a glass-enclosed full-service dining room above the rink; instead, the spaces over the ice are meeting rooms for the groups that use the building.
It is named for Abe Stark, a Brownsville clothier who served as City Council President from 1954 to 1961 and then three terms as Brooklyn Borough President. He was best remembered for his Ebbets Field advertisement, a yellow sign under the right-field scoreboard that read "Hit Sign. Win Suit."
The New York Stars Ice Hockey team, in teen and adult divisions, calls the rink home, and local high school teams use it regularly. In February 2026 NYCEDC selected Consigli Construction and TenBerke Architects to renovate the 46,000-square-foot Abe Stark Sports Center.
