A New Hyde Park rink that is home to the Metropolitan Figure Skating Club and the Long Island Sharks.
Iceland is an indoor rink in New Hyde Park with a long record in both ice hockey and figure skating. It is the home rink of the Long Island Sharks, an elite hockey club based here, and of the Metropolitan Figure Skating Club, which the rink calls the oldest figure skating club on Long Island.
The Met club holds its own ice every week, with freestyle sessions on Tuesday afternoons and ice dance on Wednesday mornings, and it runs figure skating test sessions and ice shows where members show off their skills. The club describes a warm, supportive atmosphere that brings out the best in skaters of all ages.
The rink's skating school pairs each fall and winter lesson with a pro with practice time and registers students with US Figure Skating, and a fall house league runs for hockey players.
