Englewood's covered outdoor city rink

Mackay Ice Rink is the City of Englewood's covered, seasonal outdoor sheet, formally the John T. Wright Ice Skating Arena in Mackay Park. The rink closed for repairs in April 2012 and was set to reopen that November when Hurricane Sandy struck, and the storm's major roof damage kept the building shuttered for another year. After roof repairs, the ice reopened to the public in December 2013.

The arena is partially open to the outdoors, which former New Jersey Devils defenseman Bruce Driver singled out on a 2018 visit, noting how few outdoor rinks New Jersey has. The park around it also holds a pool and athletic fields. The Friends of the John T. Wright Arena sponsored the arena's official opening reception on October 7, 2018, where Driver and fellow Devils alumnus Grant Marshall met young skaters, and the group hosts an annual Winter Party at the rink.

Hockey in New Jersey, founded in 2003 in partnership with the Devils, runs a free program for Englewood boys and girls aged 7 to 18 at the arena. It was in its fourth season here in December 2019 with more than 150 local children taking part, and the city still lists Hockey NJ among the rink's programs beside public sessions, stick time and learn-to-skate classes.
