Polar Ice Gilbert until 2014

AZ Ice Gilbert carried the name Polar Ice Gilbert from 2009 until 2014. Its original owner, Spiral Inc., fell into default and lost control of the rink, along with rinks in Chandler and Peoria, and the town of Gilbert took over the building through receivership. In May 2014 the town completed the sale of the six-year-old facility to AZ Ice, four months after receiving permission to close the deal, and the rink took its current name.

Gilbert still owns the land; AZ Ice took over management of the facility in a deal costing more than $4 million and marked the change with a grand opening on May 17, 2014. The rink was previously home to the Phoenix Knights of the Western States Hockey League and is now home to the Arizona Hockey Union youth program, alongside public skating, hockey and figure skating for skaters of all ages and abilities.

Booking & check-in

There are no reservations for public skate: turn up during a designated public time and buy admission and skate rental at the front desk. No membership is needed, and physical waivers are no longer required - the rink operates on a skate-at-your-own-risk basis.

Skating with children

Skate mates (walkers) rent for $5.00 at the front desk when you buy skates, in limited numbers, and the skater using one must be 48 inches or under. Helmets are recommended for children but are not rented, so bring your own. For children skating without a parent the rink recommends no younger than 13 and says it is down to parental discretion.
