The Arizona Coyotes' former practice rink
The Ice Den Scottsdale has operated since 1998, built on what was a vast piece of open desert land in north Scottsdale. The 150,000-square-foot ice sports center is the former official practice facility of the NHL's Arizona Coyotes.
Three NHL regulation surfaces sit inside, with standard and pro-style locker rooms. The rink is home to the Coyotes Amateur Hockey Association and its Junior Coyotes teams, which run Tier I, Tier II and youth travel hockey from 8U Mites through 18U Midget, and to the Coyotes Skating Club of Arizona. Through those partnerships the building hosts USA Hockey and United States Figure Skating Association tournaments and competitions, including the Cactus Classic, which in 2026 ran July 23 to 26 and drew skaters, coaches, judges, volunteers and spectators.
The most recent additions are a partnership with Total Package Hockey on a Center of Excellence and Ice Den Performance, a dedicated conditioning space. Whatever the desert is doing outside, where summer temperatures exceed 100 degrees most days, the rink holds at 56 degrees all day, and the Ice Den asks skaters and spectators alike to dress for it.

Admission
Public skate is $15 per skater when registered online in advance; registering less than two hours before the session start adds a late fee, raising it to $20, and rental skates are included if needed. Freestyle sessions are $13 for 45 minutes or $16 for 60 minutes per skater, with advance online registration and prepayment required. Adult Open Hockey and Adult Stick Time are each $16 for a 90-minute session, effective April 1, 2025, with no drop-ins.
Included hockey/figure rentals run Toddler 6 to Adult 15, without half sizes; rental opens 30 minutes early. Lockers cost $1 for one in/out use. The page lists both $3 and $5 skate-trainer fees; confirm the charge at the Administration Desk.
Register online from noon two days before the session. Registration closes at capacity or after the first hour, whichever comes first. Same-day walk-ups still need online registration and space. Check in at Admin for a visible admission pass.
Children using skate trainers need an accompanying adult skater. Carrying children and using strollers are prohibited on the ice. Public skate prohibits figure jumps/spins, hockey sticks/pucks and private lessons.
Ice Den parking is reserved for ice-sports participants with scheduled activities. Unauthorized parking for soccer or other events risks towing. The McDowell Medical lot directly south of Apex Rink is not Ice Den property.
