North Delta's Sungod Recreation Centre, rebuilt from two aging buildings
Sungod Recreation Centre was reimagined from two previously aging buildings into one community facility. The rehabilitation and expansion gave the arena a new ice sheet slab and boards and added three new pools, a community sports gymnasium, a weight room, a fitness area and aerobic studios. The architects report that visits to the facility increased significantly after completion.
The 2,000-seat Sungod Arena was a venue for the IIHF 2022 World U-17 Hockey Challenge, when the Delta Ice Hawks' expanded team room served as Team Canada's dressing room. It is one of three recreation centres in North Delta, and the North Delta Devils of the Pacific Junior Hockey League are listed as a tenant.
In 2025 the Delta Ice Hawks moved here after 28 consecutive seasons at Ladner Leisure Centre, first as a junior B club and then as a junior A tier 2 club. They kicked off the 2025-26 Pacific Junior Hockey League season in their new home at Sungod Arena.
