Open-air rinks beside a 1909 grain elevator

Buffalo RiverWorks sits on the shore of the Buffalo River, and the property takes in the original Wheeler grain elevator, built in 1909. The multipurpose venue has two open-air hockey rinks in the heart of downtown.

Both rinks are outside but covered by a pavilion, so players and skaters are on the ice through the weather. The venue has hosted the Labatt Blue Pond Hockey Tournament since 2014 and the Queen City Roller Derby since 2016. The Buffalo Beauts of the Premier Hockey Federation held their annual Buffalo Believes Classic here from 2019 to 2022.

The rinks are booked for practices, games, parties and events, and the venue courts traveling tournament teams. Public open skate runs on the covered rink in winter, and late-season ice depends on the weather.
