Classic Rink, East Aurora, New York
On January 1, 2008, Ralph Wilson Stadium in Buffalo hosted the first-ever outdoor NHL game in the United States. The Aurora Ice Association, a New York State not-for-profit, then purchased the ice-making equipment from the NHL and, with hundreds of passionate volunteers and private and corporate support, built a tribute to that historic event in the Village of East Aurora.
Since opening in 2008 the venue has added a pavilion-style roof, locker rooms and a warming lodge. The ice runs at full capacity from October through March, with off-ice lacrosse, flag football and community events from April to September. It was voted 2026 Buffalo Spree best ice skating rink in WNY.
As a not for profit, the rink's rental skates are generously donated or bought new or gently used, and the Association describes the Classic Rink as a true asset for the entire Western New York community.
