Opened in 1973; the only privately built rink of 22 planned in Western New York to survive
No public skating is posted for the next 7 days. New sessions show here as soon as the rink posts them.
Leisure Rinks was built and opened in late 1973, when 22 ice rinks were in the planning stages for Western New York. It was the only one of those projects, built privately, to survive.
The Buffalo Sabres practiced at Leisure for more than eight years and ran a hockey school there for eight weeks each year in the mid-1970s. At its peak the school had more than 900 students, with instructors including Rene Robert, Richard Martin, Don Luce and Sabres captain Gerry Meehan.
Leisure was also the birthplace of the West Seneca Cougars, a Junior B team in the Thruway League that drew 800 to 1,200 fans per game. Over the years it has also hosted the District V youth association, and it is now the home of the Southtowns Stars youth group.
