Wooster's 2002 NHL-size rink, donated by Donald and Alice Noble, whose first date was on the ice in 1934.
Alice Noble Ice Arena was a gift from the Donald and Alice Noble Foundation to the citizens of Wooster. The Nobles had shared a love of skating since their first date, at the Brookside Park Ice Arena in Cleveland in January 1934, and their dream of giving their community an indoor rink came true in fall 2002.
Bogner Construction built the $5.4 million arena around an NHL-size sheet of 200 by 85 feet, with five team locker rooms, a concession stand, a video arcade, meeting and party rooms and a spectator room overlooking the ice. Alice Noble died on November 26, 2010, at 95, and on January 21, 2024, the arena became a 501(c)(3) non-profit.
It is home to the Wooster Hockey Club, a high school club team, the Wooster Figure Skating Club and the College of Wooster team, whose games, tournaments and ice shows draw visitors from across the United States and Canada. The USPHL's Wooster Oilers played here until 2022.
