Brooklyn, Ohio's recreation center rink, open since 1975

The Brooklyn Recreation Center opened in 1975 and now carries the name of John M. Coyne as the John M. Coyne Recreation Center. Coyne was born and raised in Brooklyn and served as its mayor from 1948 to 1999, the longest consecutive term of service by any mayor in the nation.

The building's two outstanding features are a 200-foot by 90-foot skating rink and an indoor pool 125 feet long by 59 feet wide. The rink has its own ice rink party area, and CLE Stars Hockey holds booked ice time here in September 2026.

The pool side of the building is in the middle of a renovation. The natatorium, with its pool, steam room, sauna, whirlpool, cardio and weight room, is closed until March 2027, and the city posted a progress update on the Natatorium Renovation Project on August 25, 2026.
