Two seasonal outdoor rinks in Akron's Lock 3 Park, open each winter from the day after Thanksgiving
Currently out of season Lock 3's ice rinks re-open for Winterblast on November 27, 2026 and run through February 15, 2027. Official schedule update
Lock 3 opened in 2003 beside the Akron Civic Theatre on Main Street, a downtown park that drops 17 feet from street level to the Ohio & Erie Canal. It has since drawn more than 2 million visitors, and more than $17 million has gone into renovating it, a redesign that grew out of the national Reimagining Civic Commons initiative.
Each winter the park sets up two seasonal outdoor ice-skating rinks for Winterblast. The season starts the day after Thanksgiving with the Welcome Santa Parade, the lighting of the City's tree and fireworks, and runs into mid-February. Alongside the skaters, eight ice bumper cars run at a time, and ice bikes, with a blade in front and a wheel behind, share the surface; hockey is not allowed.
Holiday Lane shows vintage holiday displays from O'Neil's and Polsky's, Akron's old department stores, and Archie, the 22-foot talking snowman, greets visitors each season.
