A single-sheet, 33,000-square-foot rink opened in 1972, now owned by Black Bear Sports Group
Bolton Ice Palace opened in 1972 and puts one NHL-sized rink under a 33,000-square-foot roof. Black Bear Sports Group, Inc. owns the building today and runs it as a multi-purpose sports facility.
Youth hockey has been on this ice almost from the start. ECHO Stars Youth Hockey, which promotes and develops players in the eastern part of Connecticut, has been building teams here since 1973, a year after the rink opened, and its ladder runs from Mite House level up to the 18U Northeast Shamrocks. The Northeastern Shamrocks, ECSU Hockey and UConn's D3 club hockey team also list Bolton as their home rink, and the Bolton Figure Skating Club gives the single sheet its figure-skating side.
The building houses a number of on-site businesses as well, including the Bolton Hockey Supply Shop, so the teams that skate here have a gear shop under the same roof.
