Wonderland of Ice is a city-owned facility that opened in Bridgeport in 1967 with one sheet of ice. A 2007 capital improvement project added a second NHL-size rink, a new curling facility and a new lobby, though renovations to the original locker rooms, restrooms and old lobby were still to be completed.
The rink is busy with local hockey. Its youth league has about 800 players and its adult league about 300, and it is home to the Fairfield Prep varsity and JV teams, the Notre Dame Fairfield boys and Sacred Heart's men's club team. The Connecticut Storm, a statewide team for youth with special needs, is based here, and each summer a league draws NHL and Division I college players from across the Northeast.
Figure skaters train here too: Wonderland is home to the Bridgeport Skating Club, a U.S. Figure Skating member club, and the Sacred Heart University figure skating team.
