A 1,000-seat single sheet from 1975, once the Milford Ice Pavilion, now owned by Black Bear Sports Group
Milford Ice Arena opened in 1975 as the Milford Ice Pavilion, a 36,220-square-foot building holding one NHL-size rink and seating for 1,000, and it was renovated in 1985. Its sister rink was the Northford Ice Pavilion in North Branford, but a change of ownership has since separated the two.
Sacred Heart University's Pioneers men's hockey team made this its home arena from the program's inception in 1993 until 2016. Sacred Heart club hockey still skates here, alongside Staples High School, the Milford Mariners high school program, Southern CT Hockey, the Milford Mudhounds, DC Skills and Foundation Hockey, while figure skaters come up through the Milford Ice Skating School.
The arena now belongs to Black Bear Sports Group, a Chevy Chase, Maryland company that operates rinks and youth sports events and was founded to buy undermanaged, underperforming rinks of 20 to 30 years and bring them professional management and capital.
