Four ice surfaces in Simsbury where Olympic figure skaters Shizuka Arakawa and Michelle Kwan have trained.
The International Skating Center of Connecticut is known for its four ice surfaces and its figure skating history. Shizuka Arakawa, the Japanese skater who won gold at the 2006 Winter Olympics, has trained here, as has Olympic figure skater Michelle Kwan.
The center has two full-size rinks, one NHL-size and one Olympic-size, plus two 65-by-80-foot training rinks, and Legends Hall on the second floor looks down on the Olympic rink. The Connecticut Whale, founded in 2015 as a charter franchise of the National Women's Hockey League, played their first season in Stamford and then played here until the team folded with the Premier Hockey Federation in 2023.
The rink also runs public skate sessions through the week, and open freestyle ice on the Olympic or NHL rink for figure skaters to practice and take private lessons.
