Stamford's award-winning twin rinks
Stamford Twin Rinks opened in November 1996, midway between the Merritt Parkway and Interstate 95, on the former site of Machlett Lab, which at one time employed more than 14,000 people from the Stamford area. It was one of the first dual rinks built in the Metro New York area, and its original clients still use it for their programs today.
The building was designed by architect Do Chung, one of the founders of the Connecticut Yankees AAA youth hockey program. Its two NHL regulation ice surfaces sit on concrete rink bases for hard, fast ice.
The rink says it is the only athletic facility in the Northeast to win the Fritz Dietle Award for Ice Arena Excellence and has the only Professional Skaters Association Excellence on Ice program in New England. Its Learn to Skate USA program ranks among the twenty largest in the country.
