Named for Hamden coach Lou Astorino

The Louis Astorino Ice Arena, known locally as "The Lou" and formerly just the Hamden Rink, sits at Hamden High School. It is named for Lou Astorino, who coached the Hamden High boys from 1960 to 1987 and led the Green Dragons to 11 state championships and a national title in 1976.

Hamden High's hockey program traces its roots to the 1930s and is known for a long rivalry with West Haven; both the boys' and girls' teams play here. The rink is the official home of the Hamden Youth Hockey Association, and it also hosts Cheshire High School's Rams and the Blades, a girls' co-op team from Amity Regional, Cheshire and North Haven.

595 Mix Management LLC runs the rink, and its annual open skate on the night before Thanksgiving is billed as a yearly Hamden tradition.
