Trenton's three-sheet city rink on West Road, home to four Downriver high school hockey teams.
Kennedy Recreation Center on West Road grew from the Teifer rink, which opened as an outdoor rink during Christmas week in 1961. Today the complex covers more than 150,000 square feet, with three NHL-size ice arenas, a pro shop, Celly's Bar & Grill, meeting rooms and team locker rooms, and the city recently spent $8.4 million renovating it.
The arena has a long hockey past. The Downriver Stars of the All-American Hockey League played at the Kennedy Ice Arena, were renamed the Michigan Stars for 1987–88 and folded on November 30, 1987, after a 2–12 start. In April 2008 the Wooster Warriors announced a move to Trenton, playing home games at the 1,000-seat Kennedy Recreation Center.
It is now home to the Trenton, Riverview, Grosse Ile and Gibraltar Carlson high school hockey teams, and the Trenton Hockey Association offers boys and girls house and travel hockey.
