Opened August 2015 as the Penguins' practice home

UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex opened in August 2015 in Cranberry Township as two things at once: an outpatient facility for UPMC Sports Medicine and the primary training home of the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Penguins and UPMC built it together as the first facility in the world to combine hockey with a medical center and a performance training center in one complex. The building covers 185,000 square feet.

The ice side is two full-size hockey rinks with about 1,500 seats between them. The Penguins practice here, Sidney Crosby included, and the building is also the home rink of the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite youth program, which fields 15 boys teams and five girls teams. With North Catholic High School it houses the EXCEL Hockey Academy, where students combine school with hockey training.

The rinks have hosted the USHL Fall Classic four times, the USA Hockey national championships, the National Women's League All-Star weekend and a nationally televised NHL preseason game. In 2017 teams at the World Cup of Hockey used the complex for their practice sessions.
