Delmont's three-rink arena, rescued by Black Bear

Palmer Imaging Arena in Delmont opened in 1997 as a 125,000-square-foot facility with three NHL-size ice rinks. One of them converts to a dry concrete floor and sport court from March through August, and two meeting and party rooms host corporate, community and group events.

The arena is owned by Black Bear Sports Group, a private company founded in 2015, headquartered in Sunrise, Florida, whose stated goal is to save older rinks by investing to bring them up to modern standards and providing strong hockey and figure skating programs.

It is home to the Allegheny Hockey Association's Badgers, an all-volunteer, nonprofit youth hockey club organized in 1992, and to games in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League and the Pennsylvania Amateur Hockey League. The Norwin, Franklin Regional and Penn Trafford hockey clubs and St. Vincent's Polar Bearcat Hockey also skate here, and adults can learn the game through the Labatt The Next Shift program.
