Opened May 20, 1995 as the Iceoplex at Southpointe, the Pittsburgh Penguins' practice facility until 2015
Printscape Arena at Southpointe opened on May 20, 1995, as the Iceoplex at Southpointe, with Pittsburgh Penguins owner Howard Baldwin among the leaders of the project. It served as the Penguins' practice facility from opening until 2015, when the team's purpose-built UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex opened in Cranberry Township. American figure skating champion Suzy Semanick worked as a skating instructor when the rink opened.
The 125,000-square-foot arena has two NHL-sized rinks, one of them operating year-round, and counts more than 1.2 million visits a year. An adult hockey league of about 50 teams plays here every night of the week. In 2000, Robin Cole, formerly of the Pittsburgh Steelers, led a group of investors who tried to buy the Iceoplex and turn it into a community center.
Piney Ice Holdings Management bought the facility in January 2017, and by late 2017 the Printscape printing company held the naming rights, renaming it Printscape Arena at Southpointe. Black Bear Sports Group is listed as its owner.
