Skating by the Sea is Hotel del Coronado's beachfront holiday ice rink, set on the hotel's Windsor Lawn with views of the Pacific Ocean. It is open daily from November 20, 2026 through January 3, 2027, and a portion of the proceeds benefits Make-A-Wish San Diego.
The hotel behind it was built in 1888 by Elisha Babcock, Jr. and Hampton L. Story and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1977; an artificial ice machine producing 15 tons a day was already installed in 1887. Guests can watch the rink from the Sun Deck, Babcock & Story Bar, Nobu, Veranda and Serẽa, or reserve a rink-side or ocean-side Frostbite Lounge with plush seating and fire pits.
Rental skates run from toddler size 8 to adult size 15, with double-runners for young children. Wind or strong sun exposure can affect the ice, and the rink keeps skating in light rain or drizzle.
