One of Markham's five major community centres
Angus Glen Community Centre and Library is one of the City of Markham's five major community centres, built on a 6.5-hectare (16-acre) site to serve one area of the city with two skating rinks, an aquatics centre, a gymnasium and a district library under one roof. In its first year the building drew 1.2 million visitors, with demand for every activity running well past the initial projections.
The arena side is a pair of twin NHL-size pads, the East and West rinks, each 85 feet by 200 feet with spectator seating for 450. The structure is wood, carried out through the building envelope into large overhanging roof elements and canopies that are visible both inside and outside the centre.
The Markham Waxers list the East rink among their home venues, Stouffville-Markham Girls Hockey plays on the West pad, and the Huron Heat name Angus Glen Community Centre Arena as one of their venues too. Markham Skating Club's excel summer skating program runs at Angus Glen Arena from July 6 to August 13, and the club holds its pre-season warm-up ice in the building as well.
