Niagara University's two-rink arena, opened in 1996 and home ice of the Niagara Purple Eagles
Currently out of season Dwyer Arena's public skate season starts in November 2026; the schedule has not been posted yet. Official schedule update
Niagara University announced plans for an on-campus ice arena on May 9, 1995, to bring varsity hockey to the school. The $6 million NU Ice Complex opened on May 10, 1996, and the brand-new Purple Eagles beat Hobart 12-6 in the building's first game.
In 1998 Robert and Connie Dwyer, both from the class of 1965, pledged $3 million to expand the arena and the young hockey programs, and the building was renamed Dwyer Arena ahead of the 1998-99 season. It now seats about 1,400 and holds two rinks, a main rink and a practice rink. The main rink is home to the Niagara Purple Eagles men's team and the Niagara Junior Purple Eagles youth program, with seating that runs from general admission to the Talons premium club.
The arena was home to the Buffalo Sabres Summer Development Camp from 2008 to 2011, and in 2011 it co-hosted the World Junior Ice Hockey Championships with Buffalo's downtown arena, then called HSBC Arena.
