Livonia's nonprofit-leased civic arena, expanded to two rinks in 2001 and home to three high school teams.
Eddie Edgar Ice Arena in Livonia is leased from the city by Livonia Civic Arenas, a nonprofit set up to provide low-cost skating for the city's youth and residents, which also leases Devonaire Ice Arena. Both rinks are privately managed, and the association works with the city's Parks and Recreation Department.
A project completed in 2001 added a second rink with 1,200 seats in a 42,000-square-foot addition to the original 34,000-square-foot building. The existing exterior walls and roof were kept while the whole interior was renovated with new, larger locker rooms and new refrigeration and dehumidification, and the exterior was designed to blend old and new. The two sheets are now the Edgar A and Edgar B arenas.
It is home to the Livonia Hockey Association, Livonia Over 30, the Livonia Figure Skating Club, the Livonia Icettes and the Stevenson, Franklin and Churchill high school teams.
