USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Michigan opened in 1996 as the Compuware Sports Arena, built in six months so that the Whalers had a new home for the 1996-97 season. In 2015 the USA Hockey Foundation purchased the building and gave it its current name.
The complex has two sheets of ice. The main arena has a standard NHL-size rink and seats 3,504 for hockey or 4,500 for concerts, while the second has an Olympic-size surface with seating for 800 along one side. The building covers about 170,000 square feet.
Big events come through here. The arena hosted the 2017 IIHF Women's World Championship, and it holds the annual state championships for Michigan high school boys ice hockey. Public skates are held on select weekend dates through the winter.
