Holland's ice ribbon, a long-held dream

The Holland Ice Park opened in 2025 at Window on the Waterfront Park, thanks to a life-long dream and a generous donation from resident Frank Kraai. The City had explored potential locations and designs for an ice skating park since 1997, and received a $1 million donation from the retired educator through the Community Foundation.

The park is a refrigerated ice skating pond, a 700 foot skating ribbon and a separate curling sheet, with real ice made and maintained by Holland Parks & Recreation staff. The plaza has snowmelt and three fireplaces to keep visitors warm.

Ground was broken on April 23, 2024, and Kraai spoke of his long-time vision of an ice skating park in Holland for all to enjoy. The park says it is building on the overwhelming support of its inaugural season.
