A publicly owned rink completed in 1998
Walker Ice and Fitness Center was completed in 1998 as a publicly owned, privately operated building that pairs a single ice rink with a complete health club. The design gave it a copper-colored metal roof element to match the covered walkways of Walker's City Hall, and accent bands in its precast walls echo the city's existing masonry buildings.
The arena side is 33,000 square feet around one NHL-size sheet, 85 by 200 feet, with heated seating for 400 and five full-size team locker rooms. A 25,000-square-foot fitness center and about 22,000 square feet of common space fill out the rest of the building. HAWK Hockey, the Hockey Association of Western Kent, calls Walker its home rink, and Kenowa Hills Knights hockey and the Lake Effect Skating Club send members to help at the rink's Try Hockey For Free days alongside HAWK coaches.
The center runs a series of community events through the year with Walker Recreation and the City of Walker. The 2025 Skary Skate was held on October 25, a Neon New Year's Eve open skate party follows on December 31, and the 2026 WinterFest takes place in the building on December 3.
