Township-owned arena sold to the Griffins' owner in 2018 and to Black Bear Sports Group in 2026
The township-owned Georgetown Ice Arena changed hands in July 2018, when the Georgetown Township board approved its sale to DP Fox Holdings of Grand Rapids, which also owns the Grand Rapids Griffins and the Griff's Ice House rinks in Holland. The township had been working on privatizing the arena for several months. It reopened as Griff's Georgetown with an open house on October 21, 2018, where the Griffins practiced on the blue rink and a free open skate ran on the red rink.
Black Bear Sports Group's purchase of the arena, along with Griff's Icehouse West in Holland, was announced in February 2026, and it now operates as Hudsonville Ice Arena with two NHL-sized rinks. Black Bear announced plans to renovate or replace the ice plant systems, subfloor components and dehumidification equipment, and said the work would not affect programs already underway in the 2025-26 season.
Grand Valley State University, Hudsonville High School, Jenison High School, Grandville High School and the Grand Valley Amateur Hockey Association hockey teams all call the building home.
